Chemical quality assessment and health risk of heavy metals in groundwater sources around Saravan landfill, the northernmost province of Iran

The penetration of landfill leachate into the subsoil contaminates soil and groundwater has a negative effect on health. Therefore, present study was conducted to investigate quality health risk around Saravan in Guilan province. To determine effects groundwater, water sampling 5 wells Landfill were performed according standard procedures. repeated 2 times samples run through 0.45 Wattman filters measure heavy metals. Then physico-chemical parameters analysed results compared with WHO Environmental Protection Organization Iran. Finally, index potential risks children adults calculated. showed that high pH indicates long life landfill. concentrations chromium, lead manganese higher than allowed amount. non-carcinogenic cumulative assessment 4.77 2.48 result carcinogenic 11 × 10 ?3 23 ?3, respectively Also, metals for gastrointestinal cutaneous exposure more 1, respectively. Water 68.935 obtained which lower recommended.
